Austin Spurs Host Youth Sports Game on Sunday, March 5th

Silver & Black Give Back will Pair Austin Spurs Employees with “Littles”

AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 28, 2017) – The Austin Spurs, presented by SWBC, will host a Youth Sports Game, in partnership with Silver & Black Give Back, on Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m. vs. the Salt Lake City Stars at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. The game is presented by A Glimmer of Hope.

Silver & Black Give Back, the nonprofit partner of the Spurs Sports & Entertainment family of teams, and the Austin Spurs will present over $15,000 in grants to the organizations that were selected through their Team Up initiative. The program encourages students and youth-serving nonprofits to get involved in their community through service-learning projects. Go Love Now, African American Youth Harvest Foundation, Abundant Life Community Development Corporation- Life Kidz Afterschool Program, and Young Journey Foundation were selected with the help of Austin Spurs Players based on proposals submitted for projects to improve their communities and will all be present at the game to receive their awards.

Along with the money that will be awarded amongst the groups, Silver & Black Give Back will pair students from the organizations selected with different employees of the Austin Spurs. The “Littles” will shadow the employees throughout the game in order to get a first-hand experience of their professional roles.

Prior to the game, San Antonio Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford will speak to the Positive Coaching Alliance, a nonprofit that works to transform the culture of youth sports, ensuring that athletes have a positive, character-building experience. PCA also works closely with the Jr. Austin Spurs Basketball League to provide certification to all coaching staff.

Wristbands from Silver & Black Give Back will be handed out to the first 2,000 guests who arrive at the arena. The players will also be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game, all proceeds benefitting Silver & Black Give Back.
